Based on J. W. Goethes ideas on
complementarity, put forward in his
"Farbenlehre", the possibility of a perfect
inversion of Isaak Newton´s Experimentum
Crusis is experimentally demonstrated.
This means that in addition to
the monochromatic rays of light, studied by Newton, there
also exist "monochromatic rays of shadow",
which fact provokes us to reflect on the interpretation
of the spectacular demonstrations performed with light,
apertures and a glass prism.
This is a film that not only
speaks to professionals but definitely also to any
interested layman or student on various levels. Because
of its high didaktical as well as aesthetical level it is
well suited for use in education in optics. The optical
arrangements shown are easily grasped and you are
immediately tempted to go on experimenting along the
lines indicated in the film.
